A sold-out Stathfield Town Hall in Sydney was filled with nervous speed-daters on 17 April 2010 ready to meet complete strangers for a good cause. Ninety speed-daters and friends supported this event and were very curious to see how this unique fundraiser panned out.
The highly successful event consisted of three rounds of three minutes dates which helped the participants decide on whether they would opt to write down ‘yes’, ‘no’ or ‘friend’ on the sheets provided for each of the 40 dates they had over the course of the evening. To break it all up, there was a bar, a game of Perfect Match, games here and there and time to dance at the end to finish off the night.
The total profit from entry tickets, Perfect Match auction, bar and food sales resulted in $4,150 raised, all of which has been donated to Palmera to assist in the financing of its upcoming projects.

This event was born from a silly idea among a couple of friends to a conversation topic for many people in the months leading up to the event. This type of event is rarely held for such big crowds so there were many obstacles along to way to make it work best. A highlight for me was working with an amazing team who brought new ideas and whose attention to every detail resulted in the success of the night. A big thanks to all the speed-daters who left their inhibitions at home to support us and also to the overwhelming amount of friends, family and businesses who donated their time and resources to make this event one to remember. I look forward to The Meet Market 2!
