On World Refugee Day, June 20th 2008, Palmera Projects and the Melbourne Tamil community hosted Threads of Hope, a project that shared the Tamil refugee experience with the wider Australian Community.
The event was focused on three art installations that explored the history and movements of Tamil Refugees through the unique themes of ‘Women’, ‘Home’ and ‘Loss’. The interactive features encouraged members of the public to engage with and relate to the experience of persecution, migration, and life in exile - the lives of Tamil Refugees.
The afternoon also include Tamil cultural activities such as saree draping, kolam design, food and music. Representatives from the Asylum Seekers Resource Centre and other community based organisations were also present.
