A Rice Mill is to be developed in the Manthai West region in Mannar. This project is to provide much needed paddy milling facilities in this war-devastated region. Once built, the rice mill will be utilised by the community to process paddy locally, reducing travel costs and milling costs which are currently incurred by the community. In addition, the rice mill will help the community develop other associated profit- making enterprises, in order to empower and equip the local community to succeed in the future. Recent events in north-eastern Sri Lanka has led to the displacement of 300,000 people who are currently being held in camps. There is a signifcant requirement for clean drinking water in these camps. Palmera Projects working with the SkyJuice Foundation are taking steps to address these needs.
Due to the current situation we have been unable to get funds directly through to the civilians thus we are supporting those NGOs with Access. In Crisis Appeals, NGOs must guarantee that almost 90% of your funds will reach those in need. Thus we encourage people to donate to those Agency's with access including World Vision and Caritas.
