Volunteering is a great way to contribute. You can volunteer your time to Palmera's Operations, Events or Projects. As our organisation is purely volunteer run we are in constant need of people with skills, creativity and time to help us. This ranges from IT, marketting and finance professionals to musicians and designers, to name a few. We hope that Palmera can offer people the platform to utilise their gifts, talents and skills to further our vision. Please contact us if your interested.
If your thinking about travel we offer volunteer programs to Cambodia and Sri Lanka. We offer certain set dates for groups to partake in our program however you are more than welcome to use our contacts to go at other times of the year. Due to the current instability in Sri Lanka we are not sending any volunteers there however we are exploring opportunities in South India. We encourage all volunteer to fundraise so that they can support the local NGO they help at. We do not take any money for our services. Our first group leaves to Cambodia in July and we will have another group to go across in December. Contact us for more details.
Palmera is committed to the protection of children and all volunteers must comply with Palmera's Child Protection Policy.
Palmera has offered young people the opportunity to participate in hands-on projects in Sri Lanka. Volunteering in Sri Lanka provides the opportunity to learn about another culture, use your skills, make a difference and have an adventure of a lifetime.
Due to the political instability we have been unable to run this program. However if you are still interested in going across we can facilitate it.
Cambodia is one of Asia's poorest countries. After gaining independence in 1953 it has been victim of continued civil unrest. Though there is peace now the decades of war have taken their toll on vital infrastructure. Millions of people live below the poverty line and medical care and education is inaccessible to many. The millions of landmines left by the wars are a constant source of death and injury. Local and Internation NGOs work tirelessly to demine the affected areas.
Over the past few years we have developed a close relationship with a growth of an English school in Siem Reap, VDCA, which gives daily free supplementary English tuition to children.
